“’The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.’ Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others—the armies of heaven—praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.’” (Luke 2:11-14, NLT).
The first verse of the famous Christmas carol “O Holy Night” includes the phrases “the weary world rejoices” and ends with “new and glorious morn.” What powerful statements! To go from being weary to being new and glorious! Don’t you just want that kind of beginning to every day? We should all want our days to be so special that each one would be worth rejoicing over.
I think we know what made the day in the song so special. Just as in the song, we too, are preparing to celebrate the birth of Jesus our Savior. Though the stores have been rejoicing over record holiday sales since Halloween, those of us who have been patient are awaiting that singular and unique O Holy Night.
While Christmas reminds us that the coming of Jesus is certainly a time of celebrating God’s greatest gift to us, what would happen if we lived like Jesus was born every day? Like everyday was Christmas, and for all the right reasons!
Would that give you a “new and glorious morn” every day? Well, you know, I kind of think that’s what God has in mind for us. He gives us a reason to get up every morning. He gives us a new day to rediscover His love for us. He gives us a chance to live in His glorious presence every day!
Though all of our days may not be good days, because of Jesus, we get to have hope of something better every day!
