I was thinking today… about the ramifications of fear. I think fear can be helpful sometimes when it makes us move into action out of a sense of danger. I also think there is a detrimental side to fear. That’s if we fear to such an extent that we don’t live our lives to the fullest.
Fear can cause us to not do what God calls us to do because of the “fear” of others judging us, making a mistake, not being smart enough etc. We can also live in such general fear of so many things that we are always anxious, stressed, worried and depressed. We need to be careful that fear doesn’t overtake us to such an extent that we constantly allow it to control our every action or inaction and it becomes our main focus – like an idol, when it is God that should be our main focus.
The bible tells us to “fear not” and that we weren’t given a spirit of fear. So who do you think gets the benefit of our fear? satan of course! Fear is powerful, but our God is more powerful and it can be overcome.
God will help you to move forward in spite of fear. He will give you the courage to move through the fear in order to do His will. Just look in the bible – Paul, Esther, Daniel, Ruth, Joseph, Noah, Deborah, and the disciples… okay, just read the whole bible! They felt fear at times but that didn’t stop them.
I would encourage all of us to take a look and see if fear is blocking you in any way from doing something God is calling you to do, and if so, trust God. Pray for the courage and guidance to not allow fear to rule over you anymore.
(Isaiah 41:10) “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
(2 Timothy 1:7) For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love and self-discipline.
(Deuteronomy 31:6) “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you, he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
(Psalm 34:4) I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.
