“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Cor. 10:32, NIV).
I have asked God to bless my marriage. I have asked God to bless my job. I have asked God to bless my education. I have asked God to help me find a good parking space. I have asked God for so many things! What about you?
We thank Him when we get what we want, and we blame Him when we don’t get what we asked for. At some point in our spiritual lives, we turn God into the One who “is supposed to fulfill” our wants, our needs, and our desires. We give God the great responsibility for blessing us with what we want or for bailing us out of our own messes.
Yet, who are we to “give God the responsibility” to love us the way in which we want to be loved? What happened to US LOVING GOD the way in which HE FIRST LOVED US? What happened to the real narrative of “God gives US the responsibility” to live for Him, to love Him, and to GLORIFY HIM?
When we find ourselves in the position of wondering why God doesn’t seem to hear us or doesn’t seem to answer our prayers, maybe it’s time that we asked ourselves, “What have I done for God?”
The Scripture above refers to the way in which we treat each other and the way in which we conduct ourselves. It is a reminder that IN ALL THAT WE DO, we are to do it for GOD’S GLORY, not our own!
God has one purpose – to save the lost; to bring as many people as possible to heaven. And for those of us on this planet that profess Christ as our Savior, it has become our responsibility to represent Christ, and represent Him well and in a way that brings Him Honor and Glory. If we do that, then everything else suddenly takes a back seat.
And here’s the funny thing about it. When the things we ask for or the people we pray about or the circumstances we need to work out a certain way are prayed for without the slightest hint of “what’s in it for me,” but rather, “What’s in it for God,” we will suddenly understand how much God wants to lavish His blessing on those who give Him credit and give Him glory.
When we make God first, He takes care of His beloved children, and that, my friends, is you and I! What a God we serve! TO HIM BE THE GLORY!
