Have there been times in your walk with God that you find yourself distant from Him? Not “hearing” from God? I have experienced that recently. I do not understand why; but it’s troublesome, unsettling, and maybe even a little scary for me. I don’t want to be far from God, and I don’t want to be unable to hear from Him.
During one of our recent Bible studies we were talking in depth about Scriptures that we were studying; and it occurred to me that nothing is ever immaterial when it comes to God.
Sometimes I forget that God is omnipresent. He has always been there. For me, it is hard to wrap my head around these words because I’m a finite being and God is infinite. So as I go through this “dry period” where my relationship with God seems distant, when before it was not, I have to hold onto the truth that He is with me – always!
The Bible tells us David was a man after Gods own heart. And yet there are many times he was crying out to God asking Him where was He. David was searching for Him in his time of sorrow, desperation, and loneliness.
When we come to places in our relationship with God that seem so different, where they seem foreign, do not let go of God‘s word. In fact, these are the times that we must dig deeper into His word to get back to where we were before or forward to where He wants us to be.
I just need to remind myself, “Do not go it alone because you are not alone.“ God never leaves us, it’s just that sometimes we are a little lost and need to find our way back or get a kick toward the way forward. That’s one of the ways the Holy Spirit guides us, comforts us, counsels us… so we can find our way back, or forward, to Him.
Jesus said, “But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him (the Holy Spirit) to you [to be in close fellowship with you]” (John 16:7 AMP).
