In years past I made New Year’s resolutions just like everybody else. But for many recent years I have not. Like so many people, I just wasn’t too successful in keeping them. So rather than feeling as though I had failed, I just stopped making them at the beginning of a new year.
Now my goal is more short-term. “God, what would You like me to do for You TODAY?”
Am I always successful with daily goals? No, but when I ask God daily, I am more aware of His promptings. It also seems that when we bring God into our plans/goals, whether short-term or long-term, the outcomes are always more likely to be successful.
33 “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. 34 So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today” (Matthew 6:33-24).
God desires to be in an active relationship with us. Like a Good Father, He leads us, guides us, teaches us, warns us, prompts us, all because He loves us. He desires for us to be His good children – watchful, obedient, forgiving, serving, and full of the grace and love to others that He has shown to us.
If I had a News Year’s Resolution this year, it would be to resolve to involve God in every facet of my life on a more daily basis than ever before. Tomorrow can wait. He wants us TODAY.
We wish you health, joy and love in 2023!
