WEEKLY WORD – GRACE, MERCY & PEACE (8/24/21)

I was thinking today about… grace, mercy and peace. I was reading 1 Timothy and Paul ends his opening address in his letter to Timothy with, “May God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord give you grace, mercy and peace.” It got me thinking, what does it mean to have grace, mercy and peace?

The biblical meaning of Grace is favor from God that is not earned. Mercy is compassion and kindness shown to someone whom you have the power to harm. Peace is harmony, wholeness and completeness. As God gives us grace, mercy and peace, do we as Christ followers do the same to others?

Look at our world today; we are all in need of grace, mercy and peace. We are all in need of God and Jesus. You could also look at it this way – God’s grace leads to mercy which leads to peace. Just take a moment to really think about it. Maybe this should be our daily prayer for each other and for the world. May God and Christ Jesus give us all grace, mercy and peace.

(Hebrews 4:16) Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

(Romans 9:16) It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy.

(Romans 6:14) For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.

(John 14:27) “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
